Gold stars

Good day to all of my good noodles. Oh, you have no idea what I’m talking about do you? It is time flex my humor bone, I gotcha. Don’t worry.

I love Spongebob. Well, love is a very strong word with its own implications. Let us say that I am fond of Spongebob. Even as a grown man, I will still say that Spongebob makes me genuinely laugh. Me and my sister, both the same age, have an ongoing joke whenever we see each other. We break into song completely at random: Krusty Krab pizza song and F.U.N. Like people call us weird but it ain’t my fault this little sponge creates joy and peace. But as for you, my good noodle, I noticed so many gold stars that I’ve recently decided to acquire one. I am now a member of this illustrious club.. now what?

What happens now, will there be people clapping in the rafters or will I receive bottle service the next time I set foot in five star restaruants? I don’t even know if my favorite food spots do that but it would be nice. I’d walk in chic-fil-a and be like, “yeah, what’s good, b? Lemme getta hunnit gallons of sunjoy.. extra lemons, yeah, put it on my tab.” Sounds hilarious but it is unrealistic. Being a part of Medium’s member program does not grant you special priviledges in life nor does your participation change who and what you are. You know that, right?

You’re still an avid reader and writer/aspiring author or just a connoisseur of sorts, dedicated to consuming large amounts of information and entertainment. That’s really want this program entails from my point of view. An ever growing presence of virutal community who’s mission is to spread vast amounts of knowledge and experiences all throughout the world one kilobyte at a time. 5$/mo. or 50$/annually isn’t bad. It’s actually pretty great, if you ask me. Though at one point I did mention that this type of payment would not change how writer’s/audiences correspond with one another, it does however illustrate that certain exclusions are not predicated upon paywalls or specialty. I honestly do not know what it’s predicated or founded on. I really don’t. I don’t even think that once you become a member anything really changes outside of the obvious. But I have tons of questions.

First: what are you looking to read every time you open Medium? What has drawn you to these type(s) of stories/publications? For members, how do you gain more exposure for your writings? What publications have you submitted to? For editors, what types of writing styles or voices are you seeking to lift up? Just like sporting events, I am eager and want to compete. Even though I know that this market is not really revolving around any form of competition, I just want to participate and continue growing within my craft. I believe that with more comments and followers I’ll be finally getting responses [exposure]: positive/negative criticism because how else will one know if your work is elevating and your on the path to truly becoming a “good noodle”? This is not to be confused with seeking validation but to maintain this platform’s sense of integrity and community — we’re all under this umbrella together and it is time that we act like it instead of seeking to hide behind various paywalls.

Let’s work. Connect and collab. I’m all for it.
